115th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence Day in Lofoten 2013

Every year, on the 12th of June, marks the Philippine Independence day, a national holiday for all Filipinos in our country. This year, the Filipinos around the world commemorates the 115th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Philippine independence Day with the official theme " Kalayaan 2013, Ambagan tungo sa Malawakang Kaunlaran".
The Filipino-Norwegian Community in North Norway had celebrated it on the 15th of June as the common celebration of this very significant event held in Lofoten, Norway hosted by Filipino Society in Lofoten (FSiL) as the official host. FSiL had given the important message of "Magkaisa, tungo sa isang bansa ng Pagbabago at Maunlad na Pilipinas" as the created theme by the FSiL.
Several different Filipino groups and friends in Northern Norway have gathered and celebrated the commemorative event as one. These groups belonged to the Filipino Society in Troms (FSiT) - Finnsnes, Senja, Sørreisa and Dyrøy. Balsfjord group - Tromsø, Harstad Filippinske Forening (HFF) - Harstad, Gratangen, Narvik Filippinske Group (NFF) - Narvik, Ballangen, Filipino Community in Bodø (FCB)- Bodø , Filipino Union in Bodø (FUB)- Bodø, Fauske, Myre, Lødingen, Stokmarknes, Sortland composing the group of Vesterålen Filippinske Forening (VFF) and of course the members and families of Filipino Society in Lofoten (FSiL). Norwegian guests and other spectators have also attended the affair.
This year, the Philippine Ambassador in Norway His Excellency Bayani S. Mercado have attended this significant event for the first time here in Northern Norway. Mercado was joined by the Mayor of Vestvågøy Jonny Finnstad, Vice mayor of Flakstad Susan Streisand and the Mayor of Moskenes Lillian Rasmussen proxied by her representative.
The one-day celebration started with a concelebrated Mass at Leknes Menighetshuset by our celebrant priests Fr. Marek (Bodø) and Fr. Christian (Lofoten). A Kalayaan parade followed as one of the highlight of the event wherein the different Filipino-Norwegian Groups and friends have joined the displays of our Filipino culture and tradition by their best chosen Filippiana attires in women and Barong Tagalog in Men with their corresponding colorful banners. Waving the Philippine flags while shouting whole heartedly "MABUHAY! MABUHAY ANG FILIPINO!" The parade live musical parade was provided led by our invited Norwegian marching band the Vestvågøy Janitsjar who played the continuos music in the entire marching from the Church to the Leknes Municipal Hall.
Flag ceremony was held beside the Leknes Municipal Hall and being participated by the Filipino- Norwegian Community and Friends and the Philippine National Anthem " Lupang Hinirang" and Norwegian National Anthem "Ja vi Elsker dette land" was sung respectively with the accompaniment of Vestvågøy Janitsjar. FSiL Chairman Allan Edward Gervacio welcomed all the delegations who participated the Kalayaan parade as the Philippine Ambassador in Norway Bayani S. Mercado took the opening remarks by reading the official message of our Philippine President. The flag ceremony ended by singing the patriotic song "Ang Bayan Ko"
The 115th PID program continued at the reception in Gravdalshallen, Lofoten, Norway attended by almost 400 delegates and friends all over North Norway. The FSiL Organizer have prepared both Filipino traditional meals and Lofoten meals for the event. While the guests enjoying their meals, music and entertainment plus a series of danceshowcase of different Filipino dance like Sayaw sa Cuyo, Malong, Probinsyang Gwapa, Tinikling, La Jota Moncadana, Kiniwkiw Bilaskuhay, and Binasuan were performed by the different Filipino groups with composed of both adults and children.
The Special Prize "Best in Cultural Dance award" was awarded to FCB in their Tinikling presentations. Other Contest categories were also awarded "Best in Banner" and "Best in Slogan" respectively was awarded to FUB. Another award "Most Number of delegates" was awarded to FCB. A trophy and a cash prize equivalents were awarded to the lucky winners. The most highlight of the evening affair was the "Best in Filipiana Attires and Barong Tagalog for both Adults and Kids. The winners were chosen by the 3 norwegian panel of judges and being awarded with a Sash and Trophy.
At the end of the commemorative event, the next year host was announced based on the protocol agreed by all leaders who were present and signed the Certificate of Selection. A concencus was made and that the next year celebration 116th PID will be in Harstad under the name of Filippinske Forening in Harstad (HFF). The Certificate of Selection was handed to the President of HFF Leah Kristiansen.
